R-22 Has Been Discontinued

Since January 2010 in the United States, use of R-22 is no longer permitted in the manufacturing of new HVAC units. That is because R-22 has proven to be harmful to the environment due to its ozone-depleting properties. Instead, all newly manufactured air conditioners and heat pumps use a more environmentally friendly refrigerant called R-410A.

What is R22?

R-22 (often referred to as “Freon”, the brand name) is a chemical refrigerant which keeps the cools the hot air coming into your air conditioning system by absorb and release heat. Most air conditioning units installed prior to 2010 use the R-22 AC refrigerant.
